For every day kind of fun, we love to walk downtown Charleston with double scoops of Pralines and Cream ice cream from Kulwin's on Historic Market Street, seeing people have fun on vacation (we live in a vacation destination and cruise ships are often in the harbor), watching ships go by in the harbor and smelling the sea and delicious smells of all the restaurants.

We love piling pillows on the bed and watching a good movie. Ashley and I especially love to watch “I Love Lucy” re-runs until we crack up! The best things in life are FREE!

Other leisures I enjoy are scuba diving, snorkeling, deep sea fishing and travel. It doesn’t matter where we go, we just love having something on the calendar to look forward to as a family. We love getting away.  

Steve is a BIG Nebraska Cornhusker fan! He grew up in Omaha and the first words he learned was “Go Big Red!”. When football season is in, it’s amazing how he can rearrange his calendar to get the games in. It's like magic!

After we got married, we moved to Kentucky to be close to my family. Steve began work in the restaurant supply and design field. After a couple of years we moved to Las Vegas, NV where his family had relocated and was hired by a company doing design, sales and installations of restaurants, convenient stores, etc. Steve ventured out and started his own business. He was very successful but the hours and problem solving and running from this job site to the other was a constant in our lives.

In the late 1980 's he completely switched gears. He studied and began a practice in the financial and college planning field and has gone on to be an author and speaker on the subject. He's a founding member and area director of the American College Planning Foundation Center as well as a Registered Investment Advisor and Managing Partner of Coastal Wealth Management here in Mt. Pleasant. Helping families and high school students in this arena is very rewarding for him. He especially enjoys helping high school kids discover their strengths, passions and talents. Helping families figure out how to pay for college and helping students get into the best colleges where they can excel is very fulfilling.

Our Miracle Girl

During the time we were active foster parents, we received a call from a social worker needing a placement for a fetal alcohol effects three month old baby girl. We had a couple of days to prepare for her.

The moment I saw her, I was sunk. She was the most beautiful, rosey cheeked, bright eyed infant with a head full of hair, that I'd ever seen. Little did we know how much that day would change our lives.

We prayed over this little one every day for a healing in her life. Her social worker called just before Christmas in 1993, asking us if we'd be interested in adopting her. We screamed "YES"! She had stolen our hearts and we loved her to pieces! This little angel is our Ashley. What a wonderful gift from God for Christmas.

And, to God be the glory, He healed her and delivered her from fetal alcohol effects. We had a rough 6 years, but then what seemed to be overnight, we observed a change in her where she was acting and behaving just like any normal little girl, like nothing was ever wrong. Her doctors can't explain it, but we know . . . Jesus.

For years, my brother, Troy, now in his 40's has struggled with complications from diabetes.

He went blind a couple years ago and a stroke last year.

To know Troy, you'd think he doesn't have a care in the world. He's truly a remarkable man and I'm proud to call him my Bro.

Someday soon I hope to get him set up in his own home based business. He will be an awesome leader!

Over the past 30 years, my Mom and Dad have been foster parents to over 404 children. I saw what a difference they were making in the lives of these children and I wanted to follow suite.

Steve and I served as foster parents for 15 years. What's really a joy is when they come back years after they've grown and remember the good times we had. It's nice to know we did make a difference.

Below is my sister, Regina. She came into our lives when she was about 7 years old with Autism as a foster placement in my Mom and Dad's home. The family fell in love with her and Mom and Dad adopted her. While she has her own challenges, we tell her she can do anything and provide her the opportunities to be just a normal girl. No doubt she'll just "hang" with the family after she graduates. She's so much fun to be around.

As for me, I'm a big scrapbooking fan. My passion is preserving family memories in archival albums.

I'm a published scrapbook designer for various manufacturers. My work has been featured in the K&Company hard back idea book, several idea brochures, product packaging for Target Stores, In-store billboards for places that carry scrapbooking supplies such as Michaels Crafts, on the cover of QVC and I've made several TV appearances on craft shows.

I've traveled the circut and taught scrapbooking classes at conventions, retreats, shows, and stores. Currently I'm choosing to just do special events for Scrapbook Village in KY and do their store displays.

I spent time with each foster child coming into my home and together we'd make their lifebook (scrapbook). After seeing what an impact these books made in their lives, my mom (who has had more than 400 foster children over the years) set out to advocate at the state level for each child in care to have their own book. Today it's mandated!

I authored a book and hands-on training called “Loving Through Lifebooks” for foster parents and social workers on how to make scrapbooks for children in care.

I grew up in Palmdale, CA. I have an older brother, a younger brother and 2 sisters. As a little girl, I rode my bike until dark, played hide and seek for hours, played jacks, jump rope, tetherball and hoola hoop. I enjoyed dressing up, lemonade stands and being in Girl Scouts.

In Junior High School I ran track and did very well. Although my Mom told me it's not nice to be beat the boys, I did anyway.

In high school I was in all the choir classes and made All-State. I wasn't allowed to really participate in extracurricular activities that required transportation so I pretty much had my fun in choir. I was very active in my church youth group. I also was in Job's Daughters, Bethel #258, Palmdale, CA and was the Honored Queen in 1976-77. I ran for Miss Littlerock in 1977 and was first runner up. Oh well, such is life for a young girl.

I only remember going out to dinner a couple of times during my childhood. Once we flew to Michigan to see my Dad's side of the family over Christmas. Dad didn't like traveling and going places so . . . we didn't. We did however, go camping which is where I get my love for it today. Camping back then meant tossing a sleeping bag on the ground and that's it. Dad would always make what we still today as a tradition called, "Daddy Eggs". That's scrambled eggs, bacon, fried potatoes and onions all mixed together.

Spending Quality Time With Family Means Everything To Me

My Mom was always very present in my life. Going back to my earliest years, I remember her being home. Dinner was on the table every night, the home was kept clean, she participated in all my school activities as the Room Mother (remember those?) She was the Scout Leader, Job's Daughter leader, and volunteered for anything involving my activities. I remember loving that.

Growing up, there was never a conversation about me going to college or having a career. I was brought up in old school thinking where I was going to grow up to be a homemaker. Mom taught me to cook, keep house, sew, and take care of children. It's actually a wonderful privilege for Moms to be able to do that, but I was not prepared for "real life" of being able to earn a living should I need to. Then, . . . I graduated from high school. My folks up and moved across the United States, I had no husband in the wings, and Boy Oh Boy . . . did I need a job!

I worked as a secretary at the business my Dad had owned until I met Steve, we got married and then I thought, "AH-HAH! Now I can be a homemaker!

I started a home daycare business. Being around babies all day, I found that I was loosing myself and my identity. I needed to have adult conversations! I went to school, learned my skill sets and became a legal secretary.

I loved my career in the legal field. I was very good at what I did and moved into case studies, preparing briefs for trials and did research. It was during this time, being around the more affluent, I learned that people took vacations (that wasn't something I grew up with - we went camping). I discovered that people went out to eat and did the whole fine dining thing. I learned that there was a world out there of places to go and things to do.

BOY DID I EVER LEAD A SHELTERED LIFE!

I wanted to do what these people were doing and enjoy life like they were! Understanding this, after 7 years I was really at the top of my pay scale with my legal career, and I knew if I wanted more from life, I would need to change directions. I knew that if I changed nothing, nothing would change. I must be pro-active and take action. It would mean learning a whole new field and skill sets, but I was determined.

I decided I could generate income in the 6 figure bracket if I became a Realtor. So, I went to school and did just that. My first year was filled with learning new skill sets, failing forward, hard work, facing the learning curve, but I hit my 6 figure mark. I was on my way. I continued to enjoy a very successful real estate career for 13 years and then the market fell to pieces in 2005.

It was obvious to me by the first quarter of 2006, if I didn't do something quick, I was going to go under. My properties weren't renting, my listings weren't selling, my buyers weren't buying, the phone stopped ringing and property values started to decline. So I turned to the home business industry. I would need to learn a whole new field and skill sets, but again, I was determined.

I joined a business that I thought would be my answer. However, it turned out to be a nightmare. Not only was there no substance to the product or customer service, or company, but I was being told to buy $10 leads and call them. With all this coming into clarity, I knew I had to stop this madness and I hung up this particular business. This lesson would cost me $35K and very valuable lessons. It was all part of my learning curve.No. I made no money. Zero. Zip. Nada.

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? Well, I sure didn't give up or make excuses. I learned what NOT to do. I sought out education with seminars and personal coaching, then went back at it with better decisions this time. I learned to pick better businesses and I understood the value of a mentor.

I joined Global Resorts Network. Night and day contrast! I experienced first hand what a difference it makes to have a product and pay plan worth talking about. I joined with a mentor who new how to use personal branding and advertising in ways many are not doing, thus it enabled me to kick off my business. I generated 2 sales my first week and have been hard at it ever since.

Since seeking education and training for internet marketing and implementing those strategies in my business, I've generated multiple thousands of dollars by being coachable and implementing what I learned. I've added an additional business to my portfolio as well as affiliate marketing for multiple streams of income.

Today I enjoy helping others in their home based business using the same strategies I've used, plus more.
